Clubfoot
Clubfoot refers to a condition where the foot is visibly bending inwards from the ankle. Clubfoot is unmistakable and can happen in one or both feet. It is even possible to detect a baby's clubfoot with an ultrasound while in utero (latin for in the uterus).
While painless, clubfoot should be treated from birth so as to prevent a child to learn to walk on his or her ankles.
Treatment
Treatment for clubfoot has been quite successful over the years, often not requiring surgery. A method of realigning the foot by stretching and casting is called the Ponseti Method. It has been quite successful, but requires parents to actively maintain the casts themselves.
If clubfoot is severe enough, surgery may be required to readjust the tendons and ligaments.
